As a result of employee feedback from the Employee Satisfaction Survey, the
university revised its
Human Resources Development Policy HR0128 to encourage supervisors and
managers to plan for 32 hours of professional development every year for faculty
and staff as part of an overall career development plan, including conferences
and programs both outside and within the university.
To receive credit for classes taken,

Faculty and staff are the university's most valuable resource. Investing in
professional development builds a strong University of Tennessee Space

Regular Faculty and Staff:
As identified in the
HR Workplace Satisfaction Survey results, a UTSI Human Resources
Staff Training and Development Program has been established
effective immediately.
All regular employees
are eligible to participate in this program (temporary and
student employees are not eligible). Those eligible will be
provided funding for up to two (2) courses per calendar year.
This applies to courses offered at UTSI such as those offered
through the Continuing Education Department. Exceptions to the
guidelines will be considered. Justification for the exception
is required at the time of the request. This program will not be
used to pay for courses in conjunction with the University’s fee
waiver program.
When the
application is completed and
signed by both the employee and the department head/supervisor,
it should be submitted to HR for review and final approval. The
application will be returned to the employee and if approved, it
should be presented at the time of registration. Cost of the
course will be billed to the UTSI HR Staff Training and
Development Program. Printed copies are available in the Human
Resources office.
If you have
questions or concerns, please contact
