Long Term Care Insurance Coverage

The University of Tennessee through the State Group Insurance Program has made available an optional long term care insurance plan. The plan is available to employees, retirees, their eligible dependents, parents, and parents-in-law and is administered by MedAmerica Insurance Company.

Long-term care is different from the skilled, short-term care you would receive in a hospital. It is extended care you would receive at your home, in an assisted living or a nursing facility, adult day care center or hospice program. MedAmerica's web site provides a complete description of the long term care plan offered to University employees. Employees can apply at any time by completing an enrollment form and medical questionnaire online at MedAmerica's web site or by calling MedAmerica's customer service staff (1-866-615-5824)They will answer your questions and provide assistance with enrollment.

Tennessee and the federal government are working together on a program called "Own Your Future."  The goal of this program is to encourage persons between the ages of 45 and 65 to start planning ahead for their future long-term care needs.  To order a free long term planning kit, click on "Long-Term Care Planning Kit"  or call 1-866-752-6582.
